Moisturizer

What Should You Avoid?

Staying fresh-faced may seem easy with all the products available these days. But these facial products likely contain many toxins such as parabens, mineral oil and propylene glycol.

Parabens (methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben, etc) are used to increase the shelf life of products. They have been shown to act like estrogens in the body, which is known to drive the growth of cancer cells (especially breast cancer).

Mineral oil is derived from petroleum. It coats the skin and blocks pore and sweat glands, preventing the body from releasing toxins.

Propylene glycol, a common anti-freeze, is used to enhance absorption of products and prevent them from melting or freezing. It causes irritation and since it enhances absorption, it helps other chemicals get under the skin and into the bloodstream as well!

What Do We Recommend?

Good ol’ coconut oil works very well as a moisturizer. Other great oils for moisturizing include sweet almond oil and jojoba oil. There is no need to buy a moisturizer and a long list of ingredients. Drinking lots of water, eating a good diet, and protecting your skin from the sun will do wonders!

Which Products Have We Found?

Megan’s Magical Formula: Buy a dropper bottle and fill it 2/3 with a base oil (sweet almond or jojoba work well), 1/3 with Tamanu Oil (great for scarring and wrinkles) and 7-10 drops of an essential oil of your choice (I love lemongrass oil… Makes it smell a little like Fruit Loops). This is GREAT for your face, but of course will work all over for those dry patches.
