One Simple Strategy to Get The Results You Want

21 dietsWe just enjoyed a family trip to Florida. Always an interesting experience. A combination of a few magical experiences, inevitable sibling disputes, some marital stress, and a couple of fleeting moments of relaxation.

I love it!

Typically, travelling to the U.S. (or anywhere for that matter) is difficult from a nutritional perspective. Consequently, we normally rent a unit with a full kitchen and do a major grocery shop the first day we arrive. Unfortunately this year we decided to take a room with a bar fridge but no kitchen. As a result, we ended up eating most of our meals at restaurants and fast food establishments. Those of you who have travelled in the U.S. will understand when I say that fast food there is an entirely different experience of low cost, fake-looking, nutrient void, unhealthy crap!

A meal or two like this, your body can survive. But a week-long hiatus from healthy eating can have dire consequences. I found that out the hard way this holiday!

I have suffered from hand eczema for years. It has been severe enough in the past that I have had to take weeks at a time off work. The only effective solution I have discovered is nutrition. I have found that if I stick to pretty healthy food choices, my hands are fine most of the time. However, this past week, the lousy eating resulted in a severe flare up of the eczema in my hands. Very itchy, and VERY painful.

A good lesson in consequences. The choices we make determine the health we receive. Another life lesson delivered up for me in a way I can understand – PAIN!   Am I the only one that ever wonders: “Will I ever learn this lesson?”

A conversation with Dr. Dean on Monday made me realize that success comes from the boring monotony of successful routines. Figure out the right habits, create routines to support them, and repeat. Not just once but continually, for the rest of your life. It sounds almost too simple to be true, but that is the way life works. Success lies in the simple repetition of the right choices day after day, month after month, year after year. Like the shampoo – rinse and repeat!

Upon reflection, I realized that the areas of my life that I have had success in have been the areas where I have just created consistent routines that are built into my week.

Here are a few easy examples: CrossFit, three lunch hours per week – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Breakfast every week day is bullet proof coffee followed by a green smoothie. Lunch is a leftover of last night’s healthy supper. Beer only on the weekend and no more than 2.

These are just a few of the simple boring routines that have allowed me to create healthy habits. What boring, monotonous, life changing routines can you create that will move you toward your goals? Leave a comment below and let me know one simple routine that could create a profound habit for you.

PS – Two days of healthy eating and my hands began returning to normal! It never ceases to amaze me how much healing potential our bodies have when we fulfill their requirements properly!

Getting moving in some way every day. Just the momentum of simple movement creates momentum in other areas.
