Deodorant

What Should You Avoid?

Many deodorants contain three main toxins: parabens, aluminum (the “active” ingredient) and perfumes.

Parabens (methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben, etc) are used to increase the shelf life of products. They have been shown to act like estrogens in the body, which is known to drive the growth of cancer cells.

Aluminum is used to prevent us from sweating by clogging the pores in our underarms. It has also been linked to cancer and Alzheimer’s. I’d rather sweat.

Perfumes can cause allergic reactions and rashes, especially since the skin on your underarms is so sensitive.

What Do We Recommend?

Salt sticks! Do they prevent sweating? No… But sweating is a healthy function that the body uses to excrete toxins. So embrace the sweat without the odour!

If you must have a deodorant with a scent to it, look for salt sprays (not aerosol) with essential oils added. Alternatively, you can put a couple drops of your favorite essential oil on your new salt stick before applying it.
